Property Owners Association

In 1859, Henry and Elizabeth Belding moved to the newly formed county of Palo Pinto, exchanging the mountains of Arkansas for the beautiful canyons and draws of the Brazos River.  Conditions were dangerous and the couple soon joined forces with their neighbors fighting the Indians - a war which lasted 14 years and took many lives.  In spite of daunting challenges, the Belding Ranch prospered and today is home to Gaines Bend, a 1,000-acre subdivision on Possum Kingdom's eastern shoreline.

The first homeowners in Gaines Bend built cabins in the late 1960's.  Some of the first homes have been replaced with large, beautiful homes although there are still quite a few of the original cottages to be found. There are now just over 200 families in Gaines Bend - and while many have moved to the lake full-time, the majority still use their home only for vacations.  Gaines Bend is also home to the Gibson-Belding Ranch, a working cattle operation steeped in Texas tradition.  Deer and other wildlife add to the appeal and charm of Gaines Bend, arguably on of the most desirable communities at PK Lake.

The Gaines Bend Property Owners Association (GBPOA), a seven-member volunteer board, works to preserve the unique character of Gaines Bend.  Among other things, the GBPOA is responsible for maintaining the roads and general appearance of the community.  We created this website solely for the use of our members so that we could communicate with you more easily and effectively.  We welcome your feedback encourage your participation in our community and within our organization.
